SEMINAR ON EARLY HOMO SAPIENS AND MESOLITHIC CULTURES IN CHINA HELD IN BMNH

On September 27, 2011, the Seminar on Early Homo sapiens and mesolithic cultures in Chinawas convened at BMNH. This Seminar was co-sponsored by BMNH, IVPP of Science Academy of China, and Zhoukoudian Peking Man Museum.

Present at the Seminar were Dr. Wu Xinzhi, a renowned paleoanthropologist and member of Chinese Academy of Science, Dr. Gao Xing, Deputy Director of IVPP of Chinese Academy of Science, Dr. Shen Zhonghe, an expert from the Archeology Institute of Chinese Academy of Social Science, Professor Lv Zun’e from Peking University, Dr. Qian Fang, a researcher from the Institute of Geomechanics of CAGS who first found the teeth samples of Peking Man and thirty other experts from National Museum ofChina, BMNH, Capital Museum, Zhoukoudian Peking Man Musuem, and paleoanthropological sites inYuanmouCountyand Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Region of Yuannan Province. Together the experts held a fruitful discussion on the research and exhibition concerning paleoanthropology. The Seminar served as a significant platform for academic exchanges and provided a drive for the protection of paleoanthropological sites.

At the seminar, the experts also commented on the academic works on Bailian Cave Culture and Peking Man of Dr. Zhou Guoxing, researcher of BMNH. As a post seminar activity, the participants paid a visit to Zhoukoudian Peking Man Museum.
